From Donors to Storytellers: Global Giving FilmFest

GlobalGiving.com -- "an online marketplace for international giving" -- has already reinvigorated the role that small donations can play to improve poverty, health and the environment around the world. By making the impact of small donations more tangible, Global Giving educates, motivates and provides donors with the assurance that they are contributing all but directly to the end result.

Today Global Giving launches its online FilmFest, a clever way to further connect donors to recipients, and also to each other. GG provides footage from each project and invites entrants to "tell a project's story or let the world know why you love it" by creating a film.

GG provides an incentive in prize money for first, second and third place films, but the more meaningful incentive is a chance for donors cross the line from funder to active storyteller and advocate. In giving their donors a voice (and an artistic outlet), GG communicates how much it values its donors' ideas and has a chance to further reshape the way they think about what "foreign aid" can do, reaching out to new audiences and giving the converted compelling reasons to stay involved.
